Athletics Council
Purpose
The Athletics Council is responsible for providing advice and counsel to the Athletics Director and the President. The Council may review and make recommendations to the President on any matters pertaining to the enforcement of eligibility rules and regulations established by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Lone Star Conference. The Council may review and make recommendations on any other matters related to the university’s athletics programs deemed appropriate by the President, the Director of Athletics, the Faculty Athletic Representative, or this Council. The Council shall not have final authority to direct, control, or supervise the operation or activities of the university’s Department of Athletics or intercollegiate athletics programs. The Council will promote the welfare of student-athletes and serve as a link between the Athletics Department, student-athletes, and the faculty of Midwestern State University.
The MSU Athletics Council will meet no less than twice each year.
Personnel
Athletics Council is composed of three to four faculty members to include a Faculty Athletic Representative (appointed by President), a representative from Faculty Senate, and two additional faculty. Included in this council are three members from the athletics department recommended by the Athletics Director: Athletic Director (chair), a Senior Women’s Administrator, and one athletic department administrator. Committee also includes a representative from the MSU Student Government Association and two members recommended by the Athletic Director who shall be student-athletes that serve on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (one representing men’s athletics and one representing women’s athletics), and three members shall be appointed from the university staff, with one representing the Financial Aid Office.Reports To
