The Vinson Health Center serves as a resource for development programming in areas of health promotion, health maintenance, and health education. Acute care services available:

  • MD Visits
  • Diagnosis and treatment of general medical illnesses (copy of medical record and current treatment is required if seen by another provider)
  • Certain immunizations (i.e. Influenza (flu) vaccine; Meningitis vaccine; TB skin test, Tetanus, etc.)
  • STD screening and treatment
  • Women’s Health
  • Referral and care coordination
  • Minor Procedures: cast, laceration, and splinting

Students may be referred to outside medical providers for problems that exceed the Vinson Health Center’s capabilities.

The Vinson Health Center serves only currently enrolled students of Midwestern State University. There will be minimal costs for the following:

  • Lab work
  • X-Ray
  • Some Medical Supplies
  • Other procedures determined to be necessary by the medical provider

Service Exclusions:

  • Initial treatment or evaluation of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident (other than stabilization for EMS transport).
  • Treatment for Worker’s Compensation cases
  • Treatment of pregnant women
  • Conditions requiring emergent care or any condition that the practitioner deems appropriate for outside treatment. (eg: chest pain)
  • Pediatric patients
  • Treatment for animal bites (see below link for reporting information)

Prescriptions

  • Prescriptions written at Vinson Health Center can be filled at any pharmacy in Texas.
  • MSU has a contractual agreement with Trott’s Call Field Drug store to provide prescribed medications at a discounted rate for enrolled MSU students. Student may receive this discount by presenting a valid MSU ID card.

Costs

Students are responsible for any fees accrued during visits at Vinson Health Center.
